On The Town With Vegas Vic

Welcome to Las Vegas! My name is Victor H. Royer, but everyone just calls me Vegas Vic. I was named after that famous neon sign in Downtown Las Vegas, that cowboy with the hat on top of the Pioneer Club, always waving his hand and beckoning to his long love, Sassy Sally, on the other side of the street. I will be writing a few articles for AccessVegas.com, so I hope you enjoy them.

Video Keno – Part One (Continued)

There is now a game in Nevada called “Nevada Numbers”, which is a Keno game played like a State Lottery. Although Lotteries are illegal in Nevada, the Nevada Numbers is not considered a lottery because it works as a multi-link Keno progressive, linking casino Keno games throughout the State, among participating casinos. The game is a Pick-5 game, drawn once per day. The jackpot starts at $5,000,000.00. Consider the odds of a State Lottery, versus a Keno Pick-5. Consider the jackpot starting amount. Consider the frequency in which the game is played. Now you know why people who know, play Keno! Also consider the very popular 10-spot Keno ticket. In the Big Board Keno game, this ticket often pays $1,000,000.00 for a solid 10-hit. On a Video Keno machine, this ticket can pay anywhere from $10,000.00 for the $1 bet, all the way to several million for a progressive. Even nickel Video Keno games often pay over $100,000.00 for a 10-spot hit, for an investment of 4-nickles, which is 20-cents.

Even someone with a small bankroll can afford to play Keno, and have a chance at winning big money. But that isn’t the best news about this game. The best news about Keno, and the 10-spots, is that many of the frequent jackpots come as hits of 8-out-of-10. This pays $1,000.00 for a $1.00 bet. Again, consider the difference between this, and video poker. While video poker in the quarter game will cost $1.25 per bet, with a jackpot of $1,000.00, the game faces the odds of around 41,000-to-1 for this hit. The lower $1.00 wager in Keno, however, faces only odds of 7,384-to-1, and still pays a $1,000.00 jackpot!

These are just some of the reasons why many professional and semiprofessional gamblers — and players “in the know” — play Keno and Video Keno as their games of choice, or at least as their supplementary games of profit. Among games with house odds against a win, but huge payoffs relative to the investment, Keno games are much preferred by players who want to win. I play Keno and Video Keno almost exclusively, because that’s where the money is. Up to now, these methods of play have not been made available to the general public. Most people misunderstand this game, and do so because they have never been shown what a great money-maker this game can be.

Casinos offer the game, but rarely promote it because of these same reasons. Although often described as a “house game” among the books now in general circulation, where it is often mentioned that the game “holds” anywhere from 25% to 43% for the house, the game has changed. Casino competition has made payoffs a lot better than they were, and the newest variations on Video Keno have made the game vastly better that most of the slot machines, and video poker machines now available.

Casual players shy away from the game because it has never been explained, or explained in a way which shows not only how the game works, but how to play it to make money. These same players flock to the Lotteries, but ignore a game which is identical to any Lottery, but offers far better payouts and odds. Keno is a money-making game played by people who know what the game can truly provide. It is a game that can be played by anyone, and for small stakes, yet with huge profits.

We will continue this discussion in the next issue.
