On The Town With Vegas Vic
By: Victor H. Royer
Welcome to Las Vegas! My name is Victor H. Royer, but everyone just calls me Vegas Vic. I was named after that famous neon sign in Downtown Las Vegas, that cowboy with the hat on top of the Pioneer Club, always waving his hand and beckoning to his long love, Sassy Sally, on the other side of the street. I will be writing a few articles for AccessVegas.com, so I hope you enjoy them.

Caveman Keno
This is a Video Keno game where a volcano blows the numbers out through the lava-funnel at the top, spewing out virtual smoke, fire, stones and ash along with your winning numbers. This is accompanied by loud rumbling sounds, often so loud that the machine shakes as if in an earthquake. Many times I have seen players nearby these machines jump out of their seats as one of these rumbling and very loud events takes place. Although I like this game, the main reason why I don’t play it is because of these awfully noisy and loud sounds. However, that’s just me — I like things quiet, so I can concentrate on my game. You may not believe it, but Video Keno does require concentration. Most people think of it as a mind-mumbling, repetitious and largely pointless game — but they are not only wrong, they are also misunderstanding not just the game itself, but the money it makes for the players who know how to play it properly.
Caveman Keno features Paleolithic graphics, kind of like the newspaper cartoon strip B.C. (which I like to read). It’s all about the “dinosaur age”, and some of these games may even have little caveman characters poking out and about. The main feature of the game are the dinosaur eggs, which I will call dino-eggs for short. The base game is Video Keno, formatted around the same principle that plays all other Video Keno games. The dino-eggs in this game act as the bonusing feature, similarly so to what happens in the Cleopatra Keno game. In Caveman Keno, however, the bonus does not require that the last number drawn is part of the win. Some games can have as many as four dino-eggs, although the game I was playing had only three, so that will be the game I describe here.
The dino-eggs act as multipliers, which is the same principle as the “bonus symbols” on slot machines. In this Video Keno game, if two dino-eggs turn into dinosaurs — if they so “hatch” would be a better description — the total win so achieved is multiplied by a factor of four, meaning four-times the win amount. If all three of the dino-eggs hatch, then your win is multiplied 8-times. Some of these games are also available with a 10-times pay for the hit of all dino-eggs hatched.
